Butterfly Tie Block Outs Cleaned and Prepared Butterfly tie block outs had to be cleaned and prepared between each casting. The block outs themselves were also made of concrete.
Bekart steel wires, each about two inches long and held together temporarily with water soluble glue, came in plastic sacks. These were simply emptied into the cement truck and the mixer was spun up.
