Pouring Steel Fiber Reinforced Concrete

	Butterfly tie block outs had to be cleaned and prepared between each casting. The block outs themselves were also made of concrete.
Bekart steel wires, each about two inches long and held together temporarily with water soluble glue, came in plastic sacks. These were simply emptied into the cement truck and the mixer was spun up. As the glue dissolved, the fiber wires were spread evenly throughout the mix.
	In the foreground, a hex form has been cast and is curing. The workman is standing on one of the quarter cylinder forms used to cast the pieces for the Quonset hut shaped earth sheltered garage.
Quarter cylinder forms were pre cast for the garage and the sun scoop. The very stiff concrete mix was screeded onto the forms.
